Last week, during the 2025 NFL draft, fans looked on in disbelief as Shedeur Sanders, the son of NFL legend Deion Sanders, fell to the fifth round after being projected to go in the first.
Many sports analysts were not surprised and went on record stating that his sense of entitlement and off-field actions were likely a determining factor in his historic draft stock slip. Eventually, Sanders would go 144th overall to the Cleveland Browns. However, the Browns also took Dillon Gabriel, a quarterback from Oregon, in the fourth round.
The quarterback room in Cleveland looks stacked with Deshaun Watson (Injured), Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and now Shedeur Sanders. Typically, teams carry only three quarterbacks to the regular season when limited to a 53-man roster. However, the team can choose to keep more but would have to lose some depth in other places.
Browns starting quarterback Deshaun Watson suffered a torn Achilles tendon on October 20th, 2024, during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals. While he is currently undergoing rehab and recovery, the team has announced that he will miss a significant number of games in the 2025-26 season. The recent injury marked the second time in two years that Watson has ended his season with an injury.
Numerous rumors have also circulated that the team will trade or even cut Watson before the start of the 2025 NFL Season.
