Football season is nearly here, and sportsbooks have made their expectations clear for some of the biggest teams in the NFL and college football.
In several cases, simply betting a powerhouse to have a good season isn’t enough. Bettors are being asked to lay substantial juice on already aggressive regular-season win totals.
That creates an interesting question entering 2026: which teams have been priced almost too perfectly?
Based on current regular-season win totals at BetUS, these five teams have some of the highest expectations to live up to.
1. Los Angeles Rams — Over 11.5 Wins (-135)
No NFL team on this list faces a higher hurdle than the Rams.
NFL sportsbooks are currently listing Los Angeles at 11.5 regular-season wins, with the Over favored at -135. That means even an 11-6 season wouldn’t be enough for Over bettors to cash.
There’s no shortage of reasons for optimism around Sean McVay’s team, but the schedule doesn’t leave much room for error.
The Rams face Philadelphia and Denver on the road early in the season and have games against Buffalo, Green Bay and Kansas City. They also play NFC West rivals San Francisco and Seattle twice.
Los Angeles can be one of the NFL’s best teams and still fall short of 12 victories.
2. New England Patriots — Over 9.5 Wins (-150)
The Patriots enter 2026 with dramatically different expectations after reaching Super Bowl LX last season.
BetUS has New England’s win total at 9.5, with the Over carrying a steep -150 price.
Double-digit wins are certainly possible, particularly with Drake Maye leading the offense. But New England will be attempting to follow up a Super Bowl appearance while playing a considerably demanding schedule.
It begins with a Super Bowl rematch at Seattle. The Patriots also travel to Buffalo, Chicago, Miami, the Los Angeles Chargers and Kansas City while hosting Green Bay, Detroit, Buffalo and Denver.
New England doesn’t have to collapse to disappoint bettors. A respectable 9-8 season would still send Over tickets to the trash.
3. Buffalo Bills — Over 10.5 Wins (-145)
Expectations remain enormous in Buffalo.
The Bills’ current BetUS total sits at 10.5 wins, with Over bettors laying -145.
The concern isn’t Josh Allen. It’s whether the rest of Buffalo’s roster can make 11-plus wins feel as routine as the price suggests.
Buffalo made significant changes in the secondary during the offseason, including moving on from longtime cornerback Taron Johnson and safety Taylor Rapp. The Bills added several veterans in free agency, including Dee Alford and C.J. Gardner-Johnson, but the defense will still need to incorporate new pieces.
The schedule also features Kansas City, Green Bay, Denver, the Rams and two meetings with defending AFC champion New England.
Eleven wins is achievable. At -145, however, bettors are paying as though it’s the expected outcome.
4. Georgia Bulldogs — Over 9.5 Wins (-190)
The strongest sportsbook confidence on this list belongs to Georgia.
College football sportsbooks have the Bulldogs at 9.5 wins, but bettors backing 10 or more victories must lay -190.
Georgia has the talent to justify championship expectations, but the schedule creates plenty of opportunities for that price to look excessive.
The Bulldogs’ 2026 slate includes Alabama, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Florida and Georgia Tech, with an October trip to Tuscaloosa standing out as one of the season’s major tests.
Kirby Smart has also emphasized improving a running game he considered below Georgia’s usual standard last season.
Georgia may ultimately reach double-digit wins again, but -190 leaves bettors paying a major premium for the privilege of finding out.
5. Ohio State Buckeyes — Over 9.5 Wins (-180)
Ohio State might carry more preseason hype than anyone.
The Buckeyes are ranked No. 1 in the preseason FWAA-NFF Super 16 poll, receiving 28 of 56 first-place votes.
Sportsbooks agree. BetUS lists Ohio State at 9.5 wins with the Over priced at -180.
But a 10-win season isn’t automatic.
Ohio State has a September road game against Texas before a second-half schedule featuring USC in Los Angeles, Oregon at home and the annual rivalry game against Michigan.
The Buckeyes could legitimately contend for the national championship and still suffer enough regular-season setbacks to make -180 on Over 9.5 an uncomfortable wager.
High Expectations Come With a Price
None of these teams should be considered bad. In fact, all five could be among the best teams in football this season.
That’s exactly the problem.
Football sportsbooks aren’t asking bettors whether the Rams, Patriots, Bills, Georgia and Ohio State will be good. They’re asking bettors to pay premium prices for them to be exceptional.
For futures bettors, the difference between the two could determine whether preseason hype turns into profit once the games finally begin.
