NFL Contemplates Relocating Rams-Vikings Wild Card Game Due to Wildfires

nfl logoThe NFL is evaluating the possibility of moving the upcoming NFC Wild Card playoff game between the Los Angeles Rams and the Minnesota Vikings from SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, to State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. This consideration arises from the severe wildfires affecting the Los Angeles area, which have led to significant safety concerns and deteriorating air quality.

The wildfires in Los Angeles have prompted the NFL to assess the feasibility of hosting the playoff game at its original location. The league’s primary concern is the safety of the community, players, and fans. In an official statement, the NFL emphasized its commitment to public safety:

“The NFL’s priority is the safety of the Los Angeles community. We are grateful for the tireless efforts of the first responders. Our hearts are with Los Angeles and everyone affected by the fires.”

The league monitors the situation closely and maintains contact with public officials, both teams and the NFL Players Association (NFLPA). The game is scheduled to proceed at SoFi Stadium on Monday night; however, if relocation becomes necessary, it will be moved to State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

Los Angeles Rams vs. Minnesota Vikings

The Rams concluded the regular season with a 10-7 record, showcasing resilience by winning nine of their last twelve games. Despite this strong finish, the offense has faced challenges, ranking 15th in total yardage and 20th in scoring.

In contrast, the Vikings have been formidable, finishing the season with a 14-3 record. Their offense is among the league’s most explosive, and they excel in starting games strong, averaging 6.4 first-quarter points per game, ranking second in the NFL. They have been strong defensively, allowing only 19.5 points per game during the regular season.
